if you don't blog it, did it really happen? early hummingbird

Of course it does. But once you get into the habit of blogging or journaling or otherwise processing things by periodically writing, not only do you get a little addicted, but you start seeing the world through the blog lens a bit. I'm busier than a one-armed paper hanger (my kid is sick and headed to the doctor, offices moving T minus 7 days, catching up from a week away, etc.) but I'm taking this 10 minutes for a little communing with the blog and brain dumping. I see why Dave Winer's blog-tunrned-podcast is Morning Coffee Notes, it's a good time of day to chill, get your head together, and let some extraneous stuff flow out so the valuable stuff has room to breathe.

Overheard regarding BlogNashville, so many folks were clattering away on their notebooks and handhelds that it hamstrung the actual interaction. I can just picture it, how silly. But I can understand the impulse. However, let's control our impulses, k? I saw a woman at Equal Justice sitting in the nice fat leather chair against the wall in the wide hallway, notebook on lap plugged in, right hand on keyboard, left hand holding cell phone to ear. I laughed. She bought all that gear to free herself for travel, yet it tethered her to the wall, and made her appear very unavailable for personal contact. And probably weighed a ton in her luggage.

I have some stuff I wrote on the plane and in airports and whatnot over my trip, intended to post on this blog, but now it'll be out of sync. I'll do it anyway. Some of it isn't necessarily timely anyway, just some thoughts about culture and whatnot.

And on to the really important stuff, I saw a hummingbird at my feeder on May 8! That is a good two weeks earlier than usual. Is it because of the warm early spring? Is it because I have trained myself to start looking for them on May 23, and they're here before that but I don't see? Or both? Or neither? Perhaps because I blogged it, it happened, a backwards time shift.
